writing a response value into a global variable?

I trying to get my head around the following.
I have a response from an API and a certain value I need to store into a global variable.
For some reason “Store $response.data.key in $temp_var”  does not work and does not allow me to save.

How do achieve this?

  Please try - Store value ${Source} in $Target
